Who it’s for

English Oak Financial works with start-ups and small, growing businesses in most industries. We don’t work with not-for-profit organizations.

People usually come to us for bookkeeping because:

  • You don’t have the time to keep on top of the books yourself.
  • You don’t fully understand your numbers and want someone to explain them.
  • Your bookkeeping has fallen behind.
  • A previous accountant let you down.
  • Your current accountant or finance provider is retiring.

How it works and what it costs

We start with a free introductory conversation about your business and your current setup. If we’re the right fit, we recommend a clear scope of work and a fixed monthly price. Your bookkeeping then runs on a monthly reporting cycle.

Bookkeeping starts from $500 a month. Pricing is custom to your business and charged as one fixed monthly fee that includes all the work required. See pricing.

If your records are behind, we also offer catch-up and cleanup bookkeeping, quoted separately.

What we don’t do

We don’t prepare tax returns, perform audits or give investment advice. Where tax work is needed, we work alongside your CPA or tax professional.

How we start

Every engagement starts with a free 30-minute discovery call, where we learn about your business, how it is set up today and what you need.

We then send a fixed-fee proposal and engagement letter. Once it is signed, we ask for:

  • read access to your bank and credit card accounts
  • your accounting software, payroll and any payment processors
  • your last tax return and prior-year financials

We review the books, agree a catch-up plan if one is needed and set up your monthly close calendar. Onboarding typically takes 2 to 4 weeks, and your first monthly reporting pack follows the first full month-end close.

What you receive each month

Bookkeeping clients receive:

  • transactions categorized
  • bank and credit card accounts reconciled
  • a monthly profit and loss statement and balance sheet, as a PDF

You also get email support throughout the month and a quarterly check-in call. Jake oversees all client work, and everything is reviewed by him before it reaches you.

Sales tax and payroll, in plain terms

Sales tax support. We track the sales tax you collect and owe, reconcile it monthly and prepare the figures for filing by you or your CPA.

Payroll coordination. We work with your payroll provider (for example Gusto or ADP), record payroll correctly in your books and reconcile payroll liabilities. We don’t run payroll or file payroll taxes ourselves.
