When catch-up bookkeeping makes sense

Catch-up bookkeeping is for businesses whose records have fallen behind or aren’t in good shape. It’s a common starting point for people who:

  • have run out of time to keep up with their own books,
  • are behind on their bookkeeping,
  • were let down by a previous accountant, or
  • need a new provider because theirs is retiring.

Once the records are up to date, they can move onto monthly bookkeeping so they don’t fall behind again.

How it’s priced

Catch-up and cleanup bookkeeping is quoted separately, based on the condition and complexity of your records. Once we have reviewed your books we give you a fixed fee. It is never billed by the hour, so there are no surprises. Ongoing monthly bookkeeping starts from $500 a month; see pricing.

What we don’t do

We don’t prepare tax returns, perform audits or give investment advice. Where tax work is needed, we work alongside your CPA or tax professional.

How we start

Every engagement starts with a free 30-minute discovery call, where we learn about your business, how it is set up today and what you need.

We then send a fixed-fee proposal and engagement letter. Once it is signed, we ask for:

  • read access to your bank and credit card accounts
  • your accounting software, payroll and any payment processors
  • your last tax return and prior-year financials

We review the books, agree a catch-up plan if one is needed and set up your monthly close calendar. Onboarding typically takes 2 to 4 weeks, and your first monthly reporting pack follows the first full month-end close.

How much does catch-up bookkeeping cost?

It’s quoted separately, based on the condition and complexity of your records. We’ll give you a clear quote after an introductory conversation.

Can you work in QuickBooks or Xero?

Yes. We offer QuickBooks and Xero setup and support.

Do you continue with monthly bookkeeping after catching up?

That’s up to you. Monthly bookkeeping keeps your records current once they’re caught up, and starts from $500 a month.

Is catch-up work billed by the hour?

No. It is quoted as a fixed fee once we have reviewed your books.
